We
started Roost to indulge our passion for finding, designing
and developing delightful products for the home. We're
happy to incorporate some of nature's treasures into our
home collection like this marguerite bowl. Artfully-cast
brass daisies join petal to petal, the shiny polished interior
contrasting beautifully with the dark patina of the exterior.
Raised
in rural Minnesota, Teresa is a self-taught jewelry designer.
Using color combinations found in nature, she creates accessories
that work with the casual soft dressing of today. Stoneware
beads in organic shapes and colors are individually hand
sculpted from clay. Other beads are gathered from around
the world – Africa, India, Indonesia & China.
Roy
Thomas was an Ahnisnabae (Ojibwa) artist from the boreal
forest in Northern Ontario, Canada. A self-taught
artist, he was a painter of the Woodland style, using symbolisms
and imagery from the stories his grandmother had told. The
visions compliment the strengths, values and traditions
of his people. Roy Thomas' work is available at Cerulean
Arts in notecards and small reproductions.
In
Haiti, the traditional art of converting oil drums into
wall sculptures is a true mark of the artist's imagination
and resourcefulness. After burning off any residue, the
55-gallon drums are sliced & pounded flat into metal
"canvases". With a stick of chalk, the artist
then draws the design onto the metal sheet. Using only a
hammer and chisel, the design is cut, shaped and contoured
into a beautiful, intricate sculpture.
