Lisa Marie Hamilton

Organic forms, textures, and objects are the driving influence behind my prints and sculptures. I am intrigued by the interrelationships that exist within nature. The pod that protects the seed is not unlike the mother who instinctively strives to protect her child, or the unique transformation that occurs when a caterpillar metamorphosis’s into a butterfly or moth is not unlike the maturation process that occurs for humans. The pod and the cocoon serve as protection for the seed and the caterpillar during vulnerable states of transition. As such they are interesting symbols of protection and are also just one aspect of the life cycle that occurs repeatedly throughout time. These are a few of the thoughts the natural world inspires me to contemplate and respond to through my art.

My work is a conversation with nature and the process mediums of printmaking and sculpture. I work with organic forms in order to suggest the emotional relationships we share with the natural world. An important aspect of my working method is process. I enjoy variables, multiples, and patterns. Printmaking and sculpture enable me to develop a conversation with the medium due to the process and technical nature of each. The ability to make multiples and variations of an image are significant to the final body of work as I explore various possibilities.
