Cerulean Arts is pleased to present Extended Engagements, featuring works by Erin Castellan, Keith Leitner and Ruslan Khais.  For each artist, thoughtful interaction with the physicality of their materials and surroundings drive their creative endeavors. Castellan combines collaged fabrics, paint, embroidery and yarn to create complex works that cannot be understood in an instant.  Her tactile curiosities, optical illusions and formal relationships reveal themselves to the viewer through slow looking over time.  Leitner's paintings articulate how he takes in the world around him through texture, color and surface.  As a respite from the constant digital noise around us, his paintings beckon to be looked at for an extended time.  For Khais, the physicality of paint, color, gesture and form are of paramount importance.  Straddling representation and abstraction, his paintings are inspired by a particular place at a particular time under specific atmospheric conditions.
